Batman, Robin - and a spot of panelbeating

Batman & Robin - that well-known, dynamic duo may be famous for their superhero qualities, but have less expertise, (perhaps), in the field of Ugandan education. Many have witnessed, over the years, that WTA definitely has its own Dynamic Leadership Duo in the human forms of Charles (Opio) and Patrick (Kato).
Since the very beginning of the WTA story on that infamous 'old site', Charles and Patrick have worked as a team, sharing the original vision and dream, not to mention making it a reality, several years before ServeDirect came alongside.
Charles originally appointed Patrick as School Bursar/Deputy and as someone steady to represent him in his absence. Referring to Patrick as his most trusted friend and colleague, they have had a solid, longstanding friendship and partnership over many years. In practice, School Bursar can translate into several roles: Deputy, Head of Pastoral Care, Teacher of Activate and i/c Support and Ancillary Staff. Also Charles' Trustworthy Friend, A Reliable Ear and Sharer of the Vision and Aims of WTA.

As Director of WTA, Charles is certainly the 'Captain of the Ship', with overall responsibility for leading the Senior Management Team, all staff and students. Sometimes it involves steering the ship through stormy seas, so the calm, steady, experienced hand on the helm is essential.

As the new school year approaches in February, Charles and Patrick are busy appointing some new senior teachers to take the school forward into a new phase. They are also recruiting more new subject teachers, with experience in teaching the new Ugandan secondary curriculum.
Staff Training, often referred to as 'Panelbeating', also takes place during February. This will develop improvements in teaching style, pastoral care, lesson quality and ultimately school results. Someone may already be a ‘good’ teacher or a hardworking student, but when there is room for improvement, a little panelbeating can bring great rewards. A little attention here and there, plus a little polishing can bring great results in the end!
As for the WTA superheroes, there are certainly no capes or masks on view. Smart suits, ties and shiny shoes are usually the outfits of choice. But together, they have grown the school population from 6 students to 120 and to 800 in 2025 and moved the school forward way beyond everyone's expectations.
A truly great partnership.
