Summer of Sport?

As term ended with yet another rollercoaster of revision, exams, marking & reports, there wasn't much time for a 'summer of sport' at WTA. Not only because of the lack of time, but also the new sports pitch itself has turned very dry and brown due to the unseasonal lack of rain in the last few months. 

In brighter news, one former WTA student is having a brilliant sporting summer. Adiyo Solomon (completed 'O' levels in 2021) is currently representing Uganda at the World Lacrosse Under 21 Men's Championship - such an incredible opportunity to travel with the Ugandan team to play in Limerick, Ireland this August. At WTA Solomon was a very keen footballer and basketballer; it was surreal watching their team on TV walking out onto the lush, green pitch all in their black/red/yellow Ugandan kit, giving the Swedish team a decent run for their money! Back to the WTA sports pitch: even the recent intermittent rain is starting to make a small difference to the grass - but there is still a long way to go. A team of Lukomera builders has constructed some smart new toilets and bathing areas, in preparation for next term. 'Those are good enough to be a small house!' commented HM Benard. Students and teachers are already talking excitedly about how much better sport will be on the new pitch - all the WTA sports fanatics are getting ready to emulate Uganda's sporting success at the Commonwealth Games, bringing back even more gold medals for athletics.

All sporting hopes and eyes now look towards the third term. Muhammud, who works extensively on site, accurately predicted the heavy rains to start on August 16th. In addition to weather forecasting, he also lists 'latrine digging' as part of his extensive skills, so his contribution to pitch completion is as significant as ever.
